  1. Salam En. Zain,

I must admit I’m totally awed with your talent after viewing the photos in your photo gallery which I happened to stumble upon accidently.

Your excellant photos have inspired me to take up the hobby so as to enable me to snap beautiful photos similar like yours.

I have bookmarked your blog and photo gallery website to ensure that I won’t miss any of your new postings.

I hoped you’ll turn proffesional and be well-known globally in the not too distant future and make us proud as a Malaysian! Insyaallah.

    All the best.

Thanks for dropping in on my photo gallery and blog and thanks for taking your time to leave a favourable comment. I am honoured to be able to inspire someone to take up this interesting pastime. When I started in 2002 photography community in Malaysia was not as big as now and I was actually inspired by Kodak.com website which provided numerous tips on how to take better pictures but of course while promoting its various films since photography was then still film photography.

Anyway whatever medium it is and whatever camera model we are using what matters most is very much still the man behind the camera. Keep shooting and keep learning and you will be surprised at your own progress. Believe me.

By the way kalau free boleh kita lepak2 pekena teh tarik. I live in Saujana Utama, Sg Buloh but am working in KL. I also very frequently go to Kelana Jaya.

      Catch you later. Happy shooting.

      Zain

  2. Hello, Mr. Zain. Really?? You’re Self taught?? Because… your photographs look UH-MAY ZANGGG!!! haha. The colours are so vibrant and saturated! May I know what camera you’re using?? Because I would like to buy an EOS but I’m still researching what type of camera is for me.. and also.. waiting till I have enough money to buy >< Wow, there's still hope for me yet haha. Seeing your pictures.. they're really inspirational to me =D

    • Hi Elise,
Thanks for dropping in at my blog and thanks for the favourable feedback. I feel honoured to know that my pictures can be inspirational to you. Yes I am a self-taught photographer in the sense that I have not received any formal training. I learnt everything by myself through books, magazine, the Internet, friends as well as from a couple of pro photogs who were willing to share their knowledge and tips. I am using Nikon D80 – a modest DSLR but produces amazing result but I shoot everything in RAW because RAW is much more flexible and there is room for some editing and adjustment without affecting the quality of the picture to some extent. It is just like you do adjustment in darkroom in yesteryears….The secret to the vibrant and saturated colours? I tend to shoot them when the lighting was favourable and the weather very fine especially during what you call the magic hour which is in the early morning or in the late evening during which the lighting was it its best provided weather was clear. Besides I also made some adjust in contrast, saturation as well as vibrance in Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in.

By the way camera brand or model doesn’t really influence the beauty of the pictures but the photographer behind the camera is what matters most ;)

      Hope this helps.

      • It helped a lot =) I hope I too, can one day inspire people one day =) Will definitely stop by your blog once in a while and I’ll drop off a few comments here and there ;) Thanks for sharing your few experiences and honesty ^^ I really appreciate it

  5. your work is beautiful! i am a self taught professional photographer and so are you! i beg to differ with your description of your work as amateur. i have been a black and white still photographer all my life and have exhibited my work internationally. for the first time after viewing your work, i want to explore color! because i’ve done still photography as a purist (film) for so long, i’d like to work with video and digital images more. thanks so much for the inspiration and push harder – your work is strong!

    • Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for dropping in at my blog and leaving a positive and favourable comment. I am very honoured to receive a compliment from a professional photog like yourself. I still consider myself amateur because I take photos mostly for fun at least for now except for a couple of photos that I managed to sell and a few assignment here and there mostly in wedding job but still remain amateur because photography is not my full time job.

I am glad to hear that you want to explore colours. Yes to me colours have their own strong traits although B&W has its own uniqueness. I admit I do enjoy beautiful B&W photos by others but I am not good at it.

Mind sharing your photo website here so that everybody can enjoy your works?

  6. I love your work, especially since I just read that you are a self taught amateur…I’m just leaning myself…started a blog last August. I enjoy very much and hope to be as good as you some day. Carry on and much success to you. Congratulations on the Nashville Geographic photo. :)

  7. Salam. I am intrigued with your work.I happen on your site re the HAB as I was searching for an interesting and fun activity for the purpose of our school’s 50th anniversary fiesta in March 2010. I do not know much about cameras and photography but would like to buy a good camera which takes good pictures like yours. Any advice? If my friends and I manage to get the HAB for the fiesta, I plan to take super impose pictures of patrons to the fiesta with the HAB, to look as if the patrons are fying amongst the HAB. This is to sell the pictures to them of course for fund raising.

    • Hi siti roslina,

Thanks for visiting my blog and for your favourable comment. Camera actually doesnt really matter as they are all of somewhat equal capability. What matters most is the technique to handle the camera and the photographer who composes the image using the camera. I am using Nikon D80.
