Continued from my series of street shots along the famous Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

I suddenly remember Elliot Erwitt once said “The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things in words.”

(Actually it is to justify my laziness to write hahaha)

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

I am delighted to post and share some street shots that I captured recently. Lately I have been inspired by many street shooters.  A bunch of immensely talented and highly respectable street shooters in In-Public website inspired me big time. They as if unanimously show and communicate what street shooting is all about.

Many thanks also to Thomas Leuthard who generously came up with not one but so far two free e-books on street shooting and enlightened us on what street shooting is about from his point of view. Keep inspiring guys!

For you, dear readers, I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed capturing them.

Take care and photos!

Yesterday while walking to the Masjid Jamek LRT station to go home from my office I was trying to find an interesting scene or things to shoot.  I have been itching to take pictures for some time but didn’t have opportunity to do so due to work commitment and weather! Yes weather for the past week was not so favourable but I fervently hope that it would turn out to be fine and flattering next week  to let us shoot hot air balloons next week  :)

So since I brought the camera yesterday and I could escape early from the office I strolled around the Jalan Masjid India area and Masjid Jamek LRT station before taking the LRT.  I suddenly stumbled on a stall selling a lot of imitation branded sunglasses. I was thinking I might be able to bag one or two pictures from this stall. The sunglasses seemed to form an interesting pattern. So I photographed these two enterprising gentlemen who were manning the stall.

Right after shooting at this angle I walked to the other side and I noticed there was a big mirror hanging overhead for the customers to look at themselves while trying on the sunglasses.

Without further delay I clicked away upon seeing a lady trying on a couple of sunglasses and looked at herself in the mirror.  I knew I have bagged a decent picture. It also reminded me of a picture by ex-National Geographic photographer, Steve Raymer in his coffee table book entitled Living Faith.

Finally before boarding the LRT I captured the hustle and bustle at the LRT station. People were rushing to go home perhaps in anticipation of the school holiday next week. Parents would normally take a long leave during school holiday.

Happy street shooting :)

As I have told you before I tend to like street shooting more nowadays and I admit it is fun.  This new year I hope I can be more active doing street shooting and ultimately find my  own “decisive moment”. Street shooting is more convenient.  You need not travel far and chase the light just because want to shoot the most glorious sunrise or sunset at a scenic spot or you need not risk your life or limbs to capture the potential award-winning photojournalism shot a la Steve McCurry or James Nachtwey. Street shooting is just about everyday lifestyle and activities of your local people or the people that you visit not to forget your strife to capture it at the most interesting peak moment which is defined by Henri Cartier-Bresson as the “decisive moment”. In short the ultimate aim is to shoot candid and freeze the action at its peak moment.

I consider myself new in street photography although I have enjoyed viewing those by legends in street shooting such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Elliot Erwitt, as well as many others by the established names in street shooting.

I am glad to share a couple of my street shots of 2011.

Happy new year!

I did street shooting at Jalan Masjid India yesterday.  As usual Jalan Masjid India is full of activities during Ramadhan as people are shopping for clothes, food and stuffs in prepraring for Eid Festival which will be celebrated in less than 2 weeks from now.

There are traders and vendors of varieties of stuffs that cater to many different types of customers. This is a very suitable place for street shooting training ground I suppose.

I did the shooting after office hour since my office is located in Jalan Raja Laut which is within a walking distance to Jalan Masjid India.

Hope you enjoy the photos.  Please feel free to give your comments.

Perhaps you may also want to see last year’s Eid Bazaar which I shot at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman adjacent to Jalan Masjid India.

Stumbled on this scene when dropping by at Bandar Baru Kuala Lipis on the way back to KL from my hometown, Jerteh. Loved the smoke emanating from the burning charcoal added with low-angled lighting in the late evening.  It gave a sense of drama and atmosphere. My personal opinion-lah :)
