Weekly Photo Challenge: Everyday Life

This photo was taken at Marang Central Market, Terengganu.  It is a common sight in Terengganu and Kelantan if you find the traders manning almost all stalls in the market are ladies. In this picture a lady customer makes payment to a lady traders buying local produce as well as common household foodstuff.

Petronas Twin Towers peeped from inside Suria KLCC Shopping Mall

Last Friday I happened to be at Suria KLCC Shopping Mall and the lighting on that day was very beautiful and flattering. Since I took along my camera I tried to peep at the majestic Petronas Twin Towers through the transparent panel at the roof of the Suria KLCC Shopping Mall.  I actually attempted to shoot the Petronas Twin Towers through this transparent panel a number of times but I normally didn’t get good result because the lighting was not so favourable so I prefer to let those those shots stashed on my hard disk. This time I have the guts to share them with you not because I think these are the best ones but I think they are just better off than my previous attempts.

And looking down, I managed to snap a street shot of a family hanging out while perhaps window-shopping, yes that’s the Malaysian ardent pastime I guess.

Lately I have been inspired by many street shooters.  A bunch of immensely talented and highly respectable street shooters in In-Public website inspired me big time. They as if unanimously show and communicate what street shooting is all about.

Street shooting series II – Panning shots

Continuing my street shooting series, I took some panning shots at Dataran Merdeka yesterday.  I chose Dataran Merdeka because I would love to have part of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building as the background.  The building is easily recognizable as one of the Kuala Lumpur landmarks although only partly is visible.

Going home

This is a scene of ordinary people. Many city folks prefer to go to work by motorbike to avoid getting stranded in traffic jam and many of them have their wife as pillion-rider. I believe this couple is going home after work as I shot this after office hour.

The pillion-rider in this case I assume is the motorcyclist’s girlfriend is clinging to her boyfriend with inextricable love.

First street shots of 2011

As I have told you before I tend to like street shooting more nowadays and I admit it is fun.  This new year I hope I can be more active doing street shooting and ultimately find my  own “decisive moment”. Street shooting is more convenient.  You need not travel far and chase the light just because want to shoot the most glorious sunrise or sunset at a scenic spot or you need not risk your life or limbs to capture the potential award-winning photojournalism shot a la Steve McCurry or James Nachtwey. Street shooting is just about everyday lifestyle and activities of your local people or the people that you visit not to forget your strife to capture it at the most interesting peak moment which is defined by Henri Cartier-Bresson as the “decisive moment”. In short the ultimate aim is to shoot candid and freeze the action at its peak moment.

I consider myself new in street photography although I have enjoyed viewing those by legends in street shooting such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Elliot Erwitt, as well as many others by the established names in street shooting.

I am glad to share a couple of my street shots of 2011.
